Description
1930’s Canvasback by JOHN ROTH (1885~1948) of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Made from dense cedar with traditional hand tools. Roth designed it to be heavy & stable for hunting on the Winnebago lakes. I found this in a Wisconsin thrift store with no provenance beyond the neck tag & bottom label, plus confirmation internet research. Measures slightly over 17”L x 7”W x 10”H, weighs 3.13 Lbs, glass eyes, slightly turned head, old repaint on head and possibly other areas, subtle beak fracture (old repair?), Roth’s signature pass~thru nostril & bold simplistic paint style. Still in remarkable condition considering hunter and handling wear over its approx 94 year lifespan. I am not an expert in the field so questions / comments are welcome, thank you. (sorry, my chicken photo bombed pic#8)
